EURAD member, Proslavi Oporavak, reports on a recent former user conference in the Balkan region.

8th April 2014

For eight years in a row, one of Eurads affiliates, Sarajevian organization for re-socilization of former addicts – Proslavi Oporavak, has organised a regional conference named Christian gatherings of recovered addicts.

As the name indicates conference is of the religious character, and it is well known among Christian centers and organization dealing with addiction, also as among the public non religious institutions in Balkan region.

Every year, participants gathers together to enjoy community with one another, share their testimonies and to be encouraged.

It is one and unique place where representatives of similar organization from all over the Balkan region can meet each other, work on networking and experience exchange.

This year’s conference was held from 28-30 March 2014. In March, the conference was attended by approximately 180 former drug users.

The main focus of the conference was to encourage people to stay clean and sober in every day life situation. There was a focus on how a period of drug use should not define a person's identity.

Attendance and success of this conference shows that a recovery-oriented approach to addiction is becoming more widely accepted in the treatment of drug users in the Balkan region.
