EURAD advocates for prevention, treatment and recovery-oriented drug policies at national and international level, representing civil society at EU and UN forums.

Our mission

EURAD subscribes to a preventionist platform. Our mission is to reduce the burden of problems caused by non-medical drug use on individuals, families and communities through public health oriented policies that seek to prevent drug use and offer early intervention.

Our vision is to strive for a society free from non-medicinal use of drugs. We respect that internationally there are important historic, cultural and social differences in how we talk about drugs and drug policy, and that people come to this field with very different backgrounds, motives, experiences and perspectives.

Our history

EURAD was launched at a press conference in the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 25 October 1988. A constitutional meeting was convened on 7–9 April 1989 in Berlin, funded by the European Commission, formally establishing EURAD.

EURAD was registered as a foundation (“stichting”) under Dutch law (reg. number 41155759) until 2019. In 2019 EURAD registered as a non-governmental association (ASBL) under Belgian law: a network of not-for-profit legal entities and natural persons. The governing body is the Annual General Meeting; day-to-day operations are managed by an elected board.

Our secretariat

The Secretariat is based in Brussels. Communication Officer Mulka Nisic is responsible for day-to-day operational management of the network (mulka@eurad.net).

EU correspondence address: EURAD, Norway House, 17 Rue Archimède, Brussels, B-1000, Belgium. General enquiries: eurad@eurad.net.
