This is a Sakurai Lacquer Ware bunko from Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture.
It is not too old-fashioned, not too new, and has a familiar floral design.

The lacquer scratches can be seen if you look closely, although it has not been used at all since we got it. The last photo shows it well.

Bunko\" is not so familiar nowadays, but it is also called \"bunko box\" and is a hand box for storing books and other valuables such as personal effects.
It may seem a bit extravagant, but it is a convenient way to keep papers, old photos, letterheads, stationery, glasses, favorite small items, accessories, and other hand-me-downs.
